Abstract

Doubt and uncertainty exists at the present time with the mortmain laws in Quebec. At the time that the Civil Code came into force there existed a mortmain law prohibiting corporations from acquiring immoveable property without the permission of the Crown. However, the uncertainty which now exists with respect to these laws will surely be rectified in time by a new mortmain statute.
