GRASS ROOTS REGULATION OF A PRIVATE ENTERPRISE MARKET ECONOMY
Abstract
In 1966, the federal government asked the Economic Council of Canada to undertake a study to advise regarding combines, mergers, monopolies and restraint of trade, patents, trade marks, copyrights and registered industrial designs. But its deliberations are being conducted like those of the College of Cardinals in electing a pope and, in case divine guidance is not forthcoming, this article is offered to economists through the spectacles of the lawyer, whose vocation is interwoven with economics. David G. Kilgour examines five federal statutes that define the law of unfair and restrictive business practices and concludes that reform must begin there. Keywords:
