AN INTRODUCTION TO MASTER PLAN LEGISLATION

Abstract

The author believes that plans for community development, or master plans, are sufficiently important to lawyers to warrant an attempt to measure their significance to private interests and municipal governments, their status and the part they play in the development of Canadian communities. To that end, this article is an introductory critical examination of the legal and administrative problems of master plans. Because of the limited number of judicial decisions, it focuses on analysis of the law based largely on planning legislation. The author conducts a comparative analysis of such legislation from the United Kingdom and the United States.
