Abstract

In 1997, the Canadian Parliament adopted Phase II of the revision of the Copyright Act; there had been great expectations for this important step in a process which had begun in 1988. In Phase II, Parliament reconsidered issues of a general nature as well as particular problems. International law and collective management have had considerable influence on the introduction of the legal regimes for neighbouring rights and private copying. Other major features of the reform include exceptions to copyright and parallel imports of books.
