Abstract

The authors conducted a study of the correlations between certain characteristics of law graduates and their professional status, with a view to drawing a preliminary sketch of the internal structure of the legal profession. The article reviews responses to a questionnaire sent to the entire class of 1974 from various Ontario law schools. Part one explains the methodology and part two summarizes employer characteristics, assessing firms based on size, relationship to governance of the profession and ties to major corporations. Part three summarizes graduate characteristics, such as religion, ethnos, sex, grades and law school affiliation, and part four presents the most noteworthy correlations.
