Abstract

To commemorate the anniversary of the United Nations adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed 1968 the International Year for Human Rights. In this introduction the author briefly examines the progress that Canada has made in assuring the respect and enforcement of human rights, and makes suggestions for ensuring the complete enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all Canadians. An appendix enumerates specific laws dealing with human rights and fundamental freedoms passed by Parliament and provincial legislatures are illustrated.
