Abstract

A special committee on legal research in Canada was created out of the thirty-fifth Annual Meeting of the Canadian Bar Association in 1954. It immediately set to work examining the condition of legal research in Canada, and here presents its Report. It addresses the following areas of concern: the need for legal research today, the nature of legal research, the lack of legal research in Canada, the need for better law schools, the participation of various law societies and bar associations, the legal profession’s duty of law reform, the role of law book publishing and the need for good legal periodicals. Finally, it concludes with a lengthy range of recommendations.
