Abstract

In reviewing the life and career of Sir George Jessel, Master of the Rolls, the author highlights the fact that he was the first Jewish person to hold judicial office in England and one of the three greatest equity judges in the history of the British courts. From his birth and education to his death, this article surveys instances of his greatness as a judge and emphasizes his work as a Hebrew scholar.
