LE CODE DE DÉONTOLOGIE ET LES DROITS LINGUISTIQUES
Abstract
The Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s Model Code of Professional Conduct (“Model Code”) contains two rules dealing specifically with language rights, 3.2-2A and 3.2-2B. These two rules have been recently added to the Model Code and have then proliferated quite rapidly across the country, in one form or another, to be now included in almost all provincial and territorial rules of professional conduct. In this paper, the author traces the history of the current rules, but also examines them with a critical eye in order to make suggestions for reform.
