Abstract

In this article the author looks at the important role that lawyers play in society, and the unfortunate reality that they are losing their influence in the very sphere in which they should be playing a leading role. The author then discusses several reasons underlying the existing distrust of lawyers and examines to what extent lawyers in Canada have made themselves known as vital players in determining social policy. In concluding the article, the author reflects on what the legal profession must achieve in order to avoid losing its monopoly of legal administration and justice.
