Abstract

In this article the author examines the history surrounding the benefit of clergy in both Nova Scotia and England. In particular, he examines the work of Beamish Murdoch, Q.C., as well as Stephen’s history of the criminal law, and discusses how the benefit of clergy came to be abolished in Nova Scotia and England.
