PROXY MARRIAGES

Authors

  • FRANCIS G CARTER

Abstract

Given the increasing number of immigrants from countries legally recognizing marriage by proxy, the author feels that the Canadian courts might soon have to decide their position on the issue. The purpose of this article is to consider some of the legal aspects of this kind of marriage, and it does so by reviewing the conditions for recognition under the law of Canada and pointing out areas of potential uncertainty.
