Authors

  • H N JANISCH

Abstract

The Public Services Committee of Dalhousie University’s Law School’s Faculty Council developed a program of continuing legal education designed to assist the practicing profession and society. This article describes and assesses that program for the benefit of members of the legal profession throughout Canada. It begins with a summary of statistics and activities over the program’s first three years, and then explains them in greater detail by dividing the activities into categories: seminars on specialized areas of law, conferences designed to acquaint the bar with recent developments, sessions for special interest groups, law for laymen and miscellaneous activities. The author then discusses the elements required to achieve success in these activities, focusing on the Dalhousie Continuing Legal Education Series, the need for co-operation and the importance of funding.
