CROSS-EXAMINATION

Abstract

The prevailing lack of understanding on the subject of cross-examination is due mostly to the framework of our legal education. A student’s time at law school is taken up with understanding the substantive as opposed to the adjective side of law. Cross-examiners like poets and painters are born not made. However, the aptitude for cross-examination may be developed. By thoughtful attention to the study of the art, a person can become an efficient cross-examiner. Fortunately, cross- examination is an instrument that no one yet has sought to abolish. Perhaps this is because the efficacy of cross-examination is a trusty weapon against the omissions and false statements of a witness.
