Abstract

This brief article on the future of economic and business regulation in Canada makes several predictions based on current trends. Among these, it predicts an increase in specific regulatory interventions in private transactions, increased regulatory intervention based on discretionary authority within broad principles and guidelines, the reservation to government of more power to set policies and make decisions, greater development of the dynamic tension between government and public interest groups and the growth of complexity in the business-government interface.
