THE LAW AND THE LEGAL PROFESSION IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

Abstract

Written by the editor, this is a brief introduction to the theme of this volume of the Canadian Bar Review: anticipating future problems and predicting, based on historical patterns, what the implications and legal responses to them might be. It asks whether this anticipatory role is wise for the legal profession, and concludes it is not only wise but also necessary. The author advocates more of such legal futurism and hopes it will aid legislators and the legal profession in regulating the rate of change to ensure a livable future.
