Abstract

This article canvasses the life and career of Robert Laird Borden, from his paternal ancestry and humble early upbringing in Nova Scotia, to his admission to the Nova Scotia Bar at age 24 and subsequent successes. It canvasses his involvement in the Conservative Party, his opposition to Liberal initiatives, eventual defeat of the Laurier Government and cabinet formation. The focus is on his contributions to Canadian politics.
